The Desert League has announced the hiring of three managers for this upcoming season:
Antoine Watts of Campbell, California is a graduate of Cal State-Long Beach and a former professional player in the Southeastern League having played for the Selma Cloverleafs. A head instructor for the past ten years at several baseball academies, Antoine has also coached high school baseball in California. The 37-year old former shortstop is the owner of Sluggers Baseball in the San Francisco bay area. In 2013 his 18U team was ranked #1 in the country. Antoine will be the manager of the Imperial County Ghost Riders.
Francisco Javier Villegas recently retired as a player after a 14-year career and will be assisting his father both on and off the field. He started his career with Cancun in the Mexican League before being purchased by the New York Yankees. After a 2-year stint in the Yankee organization, he returned to the Mexican League where he played the next nine years. He pitched in the 2010 Caribbean World Series for Team Mexico. He will be managing the San Luis Dorados this season.
